Clap Your Hands Say Yeah Feels The ‘Fever’

Veteran indie rock outfit Clap Your Hands Say Yeah will return with Burned, its seventh studio album and first full-length in six years, on Jan. 29, 2027, via the band’s own CYHSY label through Secretly Distribution.
Founder Alec Ounsworth has also unveiled the LP’s surging lead single, “Fever of the Mind,” which finds him grappling with depression, alienation and the burdens passed down through generations amid layers of synth riffs. “This was the song that sort of thematically and sonically guided the rest of the album,” Ounsworth says. “Maybe the most important thing for me is to establish the first and then shape the other songs around it.”

The 10-song Burned follows 2021’s New Fragility and grew out of a turbulent stretch for Ounsworth, marked by the end of a relationship and the successive losses of his mother, uncle and a close friend. Rather than linger in grief, the songwriter used those experiences as a starting point for a collection that moves through heartbreak and confusion toward renewed hope.
Ounsworth wrote the new material with the stage in mind, following a 2025 tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s self-titled debut. The anniversary campaign brought fresh attention to the independently minded record that helped establish the project’s singular place in mid-2000s indie rock. For Burned, Ounsworth recorded in his home studio, produced the album with frequent collaborator Nick Krill and enlisted Dave and Mike Fridmann to mix.
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah will launch an international tour in Istanbul on Feb. 7 before heading across Europe and the U.K. North American headline dates begin April 5 at Washington, D.C.’s the Atlantis, with stops including Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Minneapolis, Chicago and New York. The run concludes May 15 at Philadelphia’s Underground Arts. Tickets go on sale Friday (Oct. 23).
